Best Construction Estimating Software in 2026: A Practical Comparison

Procore

The category leader for mid-size and large general contractors, and it shows in the pricing — Procore is typically quoted per-project or on an enterprise contract, not a flat monthly seat price, and getting a real number usually means a sales call. Estimating is one module inside a much larger platform (RFIs, submittals, scheduling, financials, subcontractor management). If you're already running Procore for project management, its estimating tools are a reasonable default. If estimating is your actual bottleneck and you don't need the rest of the platform, you're paying for a lot of software you won't touch.

Buildertrend

Strongest for residential remodelers and home builders specifically — its estimating, client portal, and scheduling tools are built around the residential sales/build cycle (selections, change orders, client communication) more than commercial project controls. A solid fit if your business is mostly residential and you want one tool for the whole client-facing relationship, not just the estimate.

STACK

A dedicated takeoff-and-estimating tool, not a full project-management platform — you upload plans, measure quantities on-screen, and price them out. That focus is the appeal: it's genuinely good at the takeoff step specifically. The tradeoff is everything downstream of the estimate (scheduling, daily logs, change orders, client communication) lives in a different tool.

PlanSwift

One of the longest-running names in digital takeoff software, now under ConstructConnect. It's a capable, established on-screen takeoff tool — the tradeoff worth knowing about going in is that multiple 2026 buyer comparisons describe its feature development as slower than newer entrants, which matters if you're choosing based on where a tool is headed, not just where it is today.

Clear Estimates
